Edgbaston Stadium is calling on fans to support #BlueForBob Day, to celebrate the life of England and Warwickshire cricket legend Bob Willis, while raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer.

The annual fundraising event for the Bob Willis Fund will return to Edgbaston Stadium on Saturday 2 July 2022, on Day Two of the LV= Insurance Test Match between England and India.

The Club is inviting all fans attending to wear blue on the day to celebrate the life of sporting great Bob Willis, who died in December 2019 at the age of 70 from prostate cancer.

Bob Willis made 90 Test appearances for England between 1971 and 1984. A right-handed fast bowler, he is regarded by many as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time. Willis began his county cricket career at Surrey, before later representing Warwickshire for 12 years.

As part of the campaign to turn Edgbaston #BlueForBob, there will be a number of activities throughout the day to help increase awareness and raise vital funds for life-saving research into prostate cancer.

Fans can show their support by visiting ‘Bob’s Bowling Zone’ which challenges the crowd to bowl 2000 balls in a day, representing the number of men in the ground who statistically will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Prostate cancer is the most common diagnosed cancer in men in the UK. Researchers and scientists around the world are looking into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of the disease to ensure the best possible care for patients.

Alex Perkins, Sales & Marketing Director at Edgbaston said: “We are so proud to take part in #BlueForBob Day and to celebrate Bob Willis – one of the all-time cricketing greats who is sorely missed. We’d like to invite all our fans attending on the day to show their support and ‘go blue’ for Bob. We hope that we can help to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support vital research into the better detection and diagnosis of prostate cancer.”

Lauren Clark, Bob’s wife and co-founder of the Bob Willis Fund, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support for #BlueForBob Day that has helped to raise over £500,000 since the launch of the Bob Willis Fund last year.

“The warmth for Bob and support for the Fund ensures that Bob’s legacy continues to save lives by supporting crucial research into prostate cancer. It simply would not be possible without the generosity and enthusiasm we receive from Warwickshire County Cricket Club. We’re delighted to be making Edgbaston our home once again.”

Donations around #BlueForBob Day will allow the Bob Willis Fund to continue to support research into better detection and diagnosis of prostate cancer.
