Bears Women have announced the signings of England Development XI spinner, Phoebe Brett, and all-rounder Gemma Porter on short-term, two-week contracts ahead of the upcoming Vitality Blast fixtures.

17-year-old Brett is currently on loan to Tier 2 side Worcestershire for the 2025 season, whilst 23-year-old Porter is currently on loan at second tier outfit, Glamorgan. Both players also represent Warwickshire academy.

They will both be in contention to start Bears Women’s next fixture, away to Lancashire Thunder in the Vitality Blast on July 6th.

Alongside Bears Women teammate Davina Perrin, Brett was originally selected for the England U19 squad for the ICC U19 World Cup earlier this year, where she featured in four matches and took two wickets during the tournament, helping England to reach the Semi-Final.

As part of the Glamorgan Women’s team, Porter has been an important part of the Welsh side’s limited overs season, helping the team to a joint top spot in the Vitality Blast League 2 South table. The Welsh side have won four and lost one of their opening five matches. Both will form part of a 15-player Bears Women squad competing for trophies in the Vitality Blast series.

Laura MacLeod, Head of Performance at Bears Women said: “Phoebe and Gemma are the perfect short-term signings to help Bears Women reach the Blast Finals day this year. Their signings are just reward for strong Tier 2 performances for Worcestershire and Glamorgan respectively and an opportunity to give our own Academy players the chance at first team level.

“Adding them to our attack for the upcoming games will ensure we remain competitive as we enter into the final stages of the Blast campaign”

“Our team are confident both Phoebe and Gemma are ready to step up to the Bears Women team, and we can’t wait to see how they both perform in the upcoming matches.”

Catch the women’s team in action back at Edgbaston on Wednesday 9 July against for a top of the table clash again Surrey (3pm) – the first match back after the break, and part of the Vitality Blast double header with Bears Men facing Lancashire (7pm).
