Chloe Brewer is relishing being at full fitness and is looking forward to another chance to spend time in the middle when the Bears face Essex in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Saturday.

The 23-year-old spent much of the 2025 season on the sidelines after requiring surgery on a hamstring injury, but she is now at full tilt and ready to help contribute to the Bears’ quest for silverware.

That quest continues at Chelmsford on Saturday for the Bears’ third One Day Cup game of the season against Essex as they go in search of their first win of the season.

Head Coach Ali Maiden’s side have had a positive but somewhat frustrating start, with a defeat against Surrey when faced with a mammoth run chase followed by the Bears’ highest-ever One Day Cup total of 354/7 against Hampshire being washed out without a ball being bowled in the second innings.

For Brewer, she is enjoying being injury-free and now looking to contribute runs to a batting line-up that has started the season in strong fashion, with the entire top five reaching 50 against Hampshire.

“I think personally, spending last year out, I’ve really enjoyed, despite not getting anywhere else, enjoyed being back out and wearing the Bears’ badge.

“It’s always great to play at Edgbaston, especially when you hear a couple of ‘You Bears!’ around the ground.

“We were chasing 390 against Surrey and we got 50 away, which is pretty good in 50 over games. So there’s a lot of good things to take away from it. The batting partnerships were really good. To start a season trying to chase 390 is quite a task, but I think we’ve fought really well we could take a lot of good things forwards.”

Essex are another side searching for their first win of the campaign having lost to Hampshire and Durham in their opening two matches and Brewer is confident heading down to Chelmsford, a ground where the Bears tasted success in 2025.

“First away game against Essex, we do pretty well at Chelmsford. I think we should, touch wood, all be good to put on a show.

“Everyone’s really excited to get on the pitch and buzz around really. I think we’re all glad to be outside and get stuck into a summer.”
