Batter Chloe Brewer believes Bears Women will play a “brave, exciting” brand of cricket as they look to entertain fans in their debut season.
Brewer – who signed from Central Sparks last year having come through the ranks at South East Stars – said the team wants to embrace a fearless brand of cricket when their season gets underway on 23 April.
And the 22-year-old said the prospect of playing Vitality Blast double headers alongside Bears Men at Edgbaston is one that’s got her teammates buzzing.
“The focus has been not to be afraid to take the braver option,” said the 22-year-old. “To push the boat out when needed. We want to play a brand of cricket that’s exciting, what people want to come and watch.
“In the past I’ve perhaps been more of a traditional cricketer. One of the pre-season focuses for me has been believing in myself, to be confident and adding a proactive, explosive side to my game.

“We’ve all been working hard in training, in the gym, and we’re doing more match scenarios now to get us into game mode ahead of the new season.
“All the girls are buzzing ahead of 23 April and that opening game at Edgbaston. We want to be in the best place possible to smash our skills and hopefully get off to a good start.
“Competition for places will be fierce, as it should be, but we’re really fortunate with the group we’ve got. We’ve formed a tight knit group. There’s a competitive rivalry but a friendship as well. We’re pushing each other hard because we want to do well.
“We want to: get some early wins on the board and get to Finals Day. That’s the aim.
“Blast double headers will be amazing occasions; we’re very excited at the prospect of playing in front of more people.”

On her training day off Brewer, who also bowls medium pace, is part of a community dog walking scheme that pairs dog lovers with owners who have disabilities or who would otherwise struggle to exercise their four-legged friends.
“I’ve been walking Bentley for a few months now,” she added. “Tuesday is our active recovery day, I love getting out on walks and chatting to the other walkers. It’s a great community.
“He’s always excited to see me. More happy than my partner is! He waits in the window looking out for me. He knows his routine.
“Bears Women is a very dog friendly zone. Nat (Wraith) brought her dog Oakley in before Christmas. He was charging around everywhere…and saved us some time collecting all the balls at the end of a session!”
Bears Women will fight for trophies on three fronts: Vitality Blast, Metro Bank One Day Cup, and for the first time a knockout competition, the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup, featuring sides from all three tiers of the national system.
