Wicketkeeper-batsman Burgess is champing at the bit to get involved with the Bears, having made a mid-season move from Sussex.
The 24-year-old is an exciting addition to the Bears’ squad for the Blast, a tournament in which he has a strong track record. Last year he helped power Sussex to Finals Day where they finished runners-up to Worcestershire Rapids.
“It was disappointing to lose in the final but still one of the best days of my life,” Burgess said. “The atmosphere at Edgbaston was just something else with the crowd getting so involved. To be part of that as a Bears player, with so many fans behind you, must be amazing and I would love to experience that.
“It is a format I really enjoy so would love to play a big role for the Bears, if selected.”
If selected, Burgess could be a key man, both as a hard-hitting batsman and, with the Bears’ bowling attack headed by world-class spinners Jeetan Patel and Ashton Agar, behind the stumps.
“I love keeping to spin because it means you can really affect the game beyond basically just stopping the ball,” he said. “Last year at Sussex I had the privilege of keeping to Rashid Khan and it was fantastic. This summer with
Jeetan Patel and Ashton Agar we have two world-class spinners and we could play three spinners which would be great.
“I am just looking forward to hopefully being involved. Finals Day last year was amazing but the lads tell me the atmosphere for any group game at Edgbaston is great with 10,000 or more in the ground. I’ve heard the Worcestershire Rapids game is a bit lively and I am just thrilled to be part of the squad.”
