Warwickshire County Cricket Club Chief Executive Neil Snowball hailed the incredible supporters at Edgbaston on Friday evening as England completed an emphatic 10 wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Royal London One-Day International (ODI) Series.

More than 23,000 supporters filled Edgbaston and were in full voice as England followed last year’s recording breaking win over New Zealand – where England posted their highest ODI innings score of 408 for nine – with Alex Hales and Jason Roy sharing a record ODI partnership for England of 256; also the highest total chased by any team without losing a wicket.

Neil Snowball, said: “The Royal London ODI at Edgbaston last summer was the start of England’s resurgence in white ball cricket and yesterday proved to be another historic day in Birmingham as records tumbled for a second successive year.

“We know that England love playing here in Birmingham in all forms of the game and we hope that the outstanding form continues in to August’s Investec Test Match against Pakistan and in to next year’s ICC Champions Trophy, with Edgbaston hosting the group game against Australia.

“It was great to welcome a capacity crowd to Edgbaston for our first international of the season. We hope that spectators enjoyed a fantastic day and we thank them for helping to recreate the incredible atmosphere that Edgbaston is renowned for around the world.

“Special thanks also go to Eoin Morgan and his England team and to all Edgbaston staff for delivering such a special occasion, in particular the ground staff who had just four dry days to support their preparations for another outstanding international wicket.”

England’s 10-wicket victory at Edgbaston was their 21st in 37 ODIs at Edgbaston with 13 defeats and three no results. In Test cricket they have lost just once since 2002 and famously beat Australia by eight wickets last summer.

Edgbaston hosts the third Test of the Investec Series against Pakistan from Wednesday 3 to Sunday 7 August with tickets priced from just £31 for Adults and £6 for Under 16s. Simply visit www.edgbaston.com/tickets or call 0844 847 1902 to purchase.
