Warwickshire County Cricket Club Interim CEO Craig Flindall has given an update on the announcement from the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that both red-ball and white-ball cricket will be played during this summer’s shortened men’s domestic season.

“Everyone within the Bears family was delighted with the news two weeks ago that county cricket will return on 1 August and it is great to follow that up today with further details on the structure. We have been firm supporters in getting the county game back on as soon as it is safe to do so and we also share the excitement about the return of recreational cricket this weekend.

“The men’s team squad have been preparing with both the red and white ball during their training sessions, which started at Edgbaston last Wednesday and are in-keeping with the latest guidelines set by the ECB and Government.

“Moving forwards, we are at the advanced stages of finalising some friendly fixtures in preparation for the season start, and we hope to hear more on the full programme of men’s team fixtures in the next two weeks.

“Our utmost priority in delivering these fixtures is to ensure the safety of the Warwickshire CCC and Edgbaston family and our visiting teams and staff. Whilst we still have hopes of accommodating Members and supporters at some stage, we do expect at least the early weeks of the county season to be played behind closed doors.

“In order to provide the best possible experience of watching the Bears away from Edgbaston, we are investing in an enhanced live stream, which all Members and supporters will be able to follow online. Further details will be released on this in the coming days.

“We are acutely aware of the investment that has been made by Members through the 2020 subscriptions. We will provide a full update on this later in the month once we have further details of the fixture list and more information about the 2020 season.

“We are also very grateful for the kind messages that have been received from several Members who have already expressed their desire to donate their 2020 Membership fee to support the Club at this difficult time.

“As soon as we have further information, we will bring you updates on the 2020 season at Edgbaston.com. In the meantime, thank you to all Members and supporters for your patience and let us look forward to the first game of the season in August.”
