Seamer Craig Miles has joined Durham on a red ball loan to cover the next two LV= Insurance County Championship matches.

Miles is set to travel to the North East in time to play for Durham at home to Glamorgan which starts on Sunday (11 June) and will be part of the squad that travels to Leicestershire on 25 June.

The 28-year-old will continue to be part of the Bears’ Vitality Blast plans during the loan, including the 20 June away trip to Chester-le-Street to take on Durham.

Miles has played almost 100 First Class matches, taking 334 wickets, but has yet to feature for Warwickshire in the County Championship this season given the strength of the attack led by Chris Rushworth, Hassan Ali, Olly Hannon-Dalby and Chris Woakes.

He said: “Obviously I want to get into Warwickshire’s County Championship side but it’s been hard because the guys are doing great stuff. Rushworth is one of the division’s leading wicket takers, Woakes has been available, and with Hassan coming in and Olly doing what Olly does it’s been difficult to break in.

“I’m looking forward to the loan opportunity, Durham are going well in Division Two but have some injuries and with Potts joining up with England they want someone with a lot of First Class experience to keep their momentum going.

“Hopefully I can put in a couple of good performances and come back to challenge for a place at Warwickshire. The season schedule is tough and I’m sure there will come a time to get back into the red ball side…I need to be fresh and ready to seize that moment.”

Warwickshire First Team Coach Mark Robinson, added: “This is a good opportunity for Milo to play a couple of red ball games and to bowl for longer spells. Those opportunities have been limited here as several Second XI games have been washed out.

“I’m sure he’ll relish the opportunity to play and put some pressure on selection for a first team slot here.”
