Well, we have played our first game out here in the Big Bash and it was fantastic to get out there and play some cricket, especially with some spectators in the ground.

Unfortunately, the result against Hobart Hurricanes didn’t go our way but making my Strikers debut was a great experience…and, as always with T20, the game threw up something unexpected!

I certainly didn’t expect to figure in the biggest partnership of the innings. Or hit my first sixes in T20!

For those who didn’t follow the game, the Hurricanes batted first and scored 174 for five. I bowled the second over and it didn’t go great which was disappointing, but that can happen in T20.

Our reply was then a struggle and I went in at 102 for nine. It looked pretty much a lost cause but Danny Worrall batted brilliantly and we chipped away and suddenly, with three overs to go, were thinking, ‘blimey, maybe we could pull this off. ‘

It didn’t quite happen but, from the position we were in, to get it down to needing 18 off the last over and really make the Hurricanes work hard for the win, was a good effort.

It was fun to hit those sixes, both over mid-wicket, but I don’t think I’ll be putting my name in the hat as a pinch-hitter for the Bears next summer. I’ll leave that to the experts!

Playing in front of a crowd was great and hopefully the number of spectators permitted will go up as the tournament goes on. That will be brilliant as T20 especially is all about the atmosphere. I can’t wait to hopefully sample to that full Edgbaston atmosphere in the Blast next summer.

One of the exciting things about the Big Bash is that games come thick and fast. We have got another one tomorrow so quickly have a chance to bounce back.  With all that is going on in the world, and the two weeks in quarantine, it has great to get back to cricket and much closer to normal. There are still restrictions in place over here, but it is all superbly organised by the Big Bash.

We can go out for meals. You have to sit outside…but then sitting outside to eat in Australia is no hardship! I’m just so grateful to have this amazing opportunity with the Strikers.

Meanwhile, I expect it’s getting a bit chilly back over there in England. I hope all the Bears fans are keeping safe and well. Speak next week…when hopefully I’ll have the first Strikers wins to report!
