Hello Bears fans. I hope you are all keeping safe and well.
Over here in Adelaide the Big Bash group stage is coming towards the business end and I’m pleased to say the Strikers had a great win over Melbourne Stars yesterday. It was a good performance from us and a really good win in a low-scoring game and puts us back on the front foot as we go into our last four group games.
We needed it, to be honest. Our record so far – won five, lost five – says it all about our inconsistency. We are still very much in the qualification mix but only once have we won two games on the trot and that is something we need to improve upon if we are going to go far in the tournament.
In comps like the Bash and the Blast, teams that finish the group stage on a roll often carry that momentum and confidence into the knockout stages, as the Bears did when they won in the Blast in 2014. That’s what we are looking to do over the next couple of weeks. We are certainly capable of it.

Next up is the return against the Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. It is an amazing stadium and I am really looking to getting there and, if selected, playing there for the first time. I have 12th-manned at the MCG, for England in an ODI, but never played there. It is one of the world’s great cricket grounds and hopefully there will be spectators in on Friday and we can get another win.
Then, after a rejigging of the fixtures, our last three games will be at home which will hopefully work in our favour. The Adelaide Oval is a lovely ground and our fans really get behind us. It’s always great to have that support and the Strikers fans, like the Bears fans, are really passionate about their side which gives us a great atmosphere to play in.
This is just a great all-round experience for me and I am fully aware, with all that’s going on in the world, how lucky I am to be out here playing cricket. I have been made so welcome. As a Pom, you get a bit of stick on the boundary but, to be honest. probably no more than an Aussie gets from opposing fans in the Bash. It’s all good-natured and just adds to this fantastic experience and I just want to repay the Strikers by helping them go all the way in the tournament.
Speak next week. Stay safe.
Danny
