Those in attendance at Edgbaston on Friday 12 April saw something special.
The visitors, who chose to bowl, were pummelled by openers Rob Yates (191, 205 balls) and Alex Davies (223* 274 balls) who added 343, the second-highest championship opening stand for Warwickshire.
It was a special afternoon which saw the Bears close on 490/1 with Alex Davies looking to add to his First Class career best and maiden double hundred.
“I definitely didn’t expect that and we were unsure what to do at the toss,” said Captain Davies. “Thankfully we lost it and the rest is history!”
“Rob helps me a lot, and I wouldn’t say it too his face, but I really enjoy batting with him. I got off to a flyer, he bunkered in, and the roles reversed a little bit later when he was smacking it to all parts and I could just rotate and get him on strike. I would say the dynamic works well.”
