Warwickshire Women Captain, Georgia Davis, admits her team are hurting after they fell to a five-wicket defeat away to Somerset, but vows that they will continue fighting for a first win of the 2026 Vitality Blast.
The Bears, batting first at The County Ground, were restricted to 123 for eight from their 20 overs, with in-form Meg Austin and all-rounder Mary Taylor top scoring with 31 apiece.
In reply, Alexa Stonehouse and Mary Taylor struck in consecutive overs with the score on 38 to give the Bears early hope, but 42 off 31 balls from Niamh Holland helped the hosts reach the total five down.
Davis says it’s been a difficult time for her side but is hopeful that hard work and the return of key players in the coming weeks can have a positive impact on result.
“It’s a really disappointing period and the girls are hurting at the minute, but it’s a time to stick together,” she said.
“Things haven’t gone our way in this competition. We have had a few injuries which haven’t helped us, and these games come thick and fast, so when you’re on a run like this, it does become really difficult.
“Katie George is pretty close to coming back and then Davina Perrin hopefully won’t be too long after that, so they’re not a million miles away. Getting them back will be really good for us.”
A bright spark for the Bears throughout the campaign has been Austin, with 31 at the top of the order today seeing her go past 200 runs in this year’s competition.
Davis was keen to highlight Austin’s contribution, and that with support with the bat, results could’ve been different.
“Meg [Austin] has done fantastically well. She’s looked really good for us and we have just needed a couple more people to go on with the bat with her. That’s probably been our problem.
“We haven’t put partnerships together and it’s been Meg on her own. The girls know what they need to do. We will all keep fighting and we’ll come back.
“I think we haven’t done a whole game well. We’ve done parts of games well and that’s where we’re letting ourselves down at the minute.”
The Bears return to Vitality Blast action on Friday 26 June when they take on Surrey. At Edgbaston.
