Georgia Davis is excited to lead Warwickshire Women into her second season as captain with the Metro Bank One Day Cup season set to get under way against Surrey on Saturday April 11.

The 26-year-old was appointed Bears’ captain before the 2025 season and led by example, guiding a young squad through their maiden season as a professional outfit and finishing the year as the leading wicket-taker.

Davis is now ready to continue her captaincy journey and hopes to keep evolving as a leader in the season ahead, as well as contributing to team success.

“I’m learning all the time,” she said. “Obviously, it was a new experience for me last year, but I think I’ve had a good winter to learn even more, understand a few different things a bit better, understand the team better, understand the game. I just want to keep learning, keep speaking to loads of different people as well, but I feel like I’m ready to go for this new season.

“I want to keep taking wickets if I can and I just want to do whatever I can to help the team get out the group stages, get to a Finals Day. That’s what I want to do and I think if as a team we can get to a Finals Day, that would be fantastic.”

The Bears have enjoyed a positive pre-season, winning three games from three, including a 19-run win over Durham in their most recent outing, and Davis says confidence is high among the squad.

“The warm up games were a nice little taste of being back out on grass. I don’t want to see that indoor school until next winter again. So I’m really looking forward to the season. Hopefully we can bring some success home.

“We’ve come out the right side of all three of them, which is really nice. We’ve just tried to implement things that we have tried to do differently in the winter. We’ve set out last year how we wanted to go about playing the game, and I think we did that in warm up games this year as well. We’re just carrying on that on and building on that, and we’re looking in a really good spot.

“We’ve taken loads of positives from pre-season. All the girls have been fantastic throughout that. We are really excited to get going now and hopefully we can have a nice win on Saturday.

“Surrey are a really strong side. They’ve got bags of experience, and if all their England girls are playing, then obviously that’s a real big challenge in itself. We beat them last year in the 50 over comp, and there’s not much for us to lose against them. We go out there and we do what we do, and hopefully that’s enough to get over the line.”
