Edgbaston Stadium is hosting an Open Day for teenagers interested in pursuing a career in professional sport.
The Open Day on 10 March (12.30pm-4pm) will give Year 11 pupils a taster of the BTEC Sport, Fitness Instructing and Personal Training courses run by the Edgbaston Foundation charity through Sandwell College.
The courses – part of the Edgbaston Cricket Education Programme – are aimed at boys and girls aspiring to carve out careers in sports coaching, marketing, psychology, nutrition, and a range of other professions.
Friday’s Open Day will give pupils and parents an opportunity meet lecturers and coaches, watch an in-depth presentation, and take part in an indoor cricket session.
And there will also be a chance to sit in on two taster lessons – one in Sports Coaching and Development and one in Sports and Exercise Science – to get an insight into the course content.
Joshua Howells Holloway, Education and Employability Officer at Edgbaston, said: “The programme offers a unique opportunity to learn, train and play cricket at the world famous Edgbaston Stadium and learn from professional coaches staff and players at Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
“The Open Day is designed for prospective 2023-24 academic year students and offers potential progression to university and careers in physical education teaching, physiotherapy, cricket coaching and sport development.
“More than 20 teenagers attended last year’s Open Day and all of them enrolled onto the programme – so it’s proven to be a great introduction to the course and an influential pathway.”
To book your place, please email thomas.hayward@sandwell.ac.uk. Attendees can bring their own cricket equipment to participate in the training sessions but the Club can provide some equipment.
