Automated venue technology helps Edgbaston reduce energy consumption, lower operational costs and support sustainability goals.

Edgbaston Stadium has become one of the first venues in the UK to deploy a pioneering integration between venue and event management platform iVvy and smart energy technology provider Lightwave, helping automate energy use across its multi-purpose event spaces and supporting the stadium’s sustainability and net-zero ambitions.

As one of the UK’s most iconic sporting venues and a leading conference and events destination, Edgbaston hosts an extensive programme of cricket, conferences, exhibitions, dinners and private events throughout the year. With multiple events often taking place simultaneously across different areas of the stadium, managing energy consumption efficiently has become an increasingly important focus.

The new integration connects event booking information held within iVvy directly to Lightwave’s smart lighting, power and heating controls. This enables spaces and equipment to automatically power up ahead of scheduled events and switch off once events have concluded, eliminating the need for manual intervention by venue teams.

The technology can automatically control lighting, screens, AV equipment and catering appliances based on event schedules, ensuring energy is only used when and where it is needed.

Lydia Carrington, Sustainability Manager at Edgbaston Stadium, said: “We are very happy with the Lightwave Smart Socket and iVvy integration. It has proven to be a smart, yet simple solution that delivers real value in energy and cost savings and supports us with our sustainability targets.

“Everything works exactly as it should without any extra effort from teams on the ground. We’ve seen benefits straight away, making it easy to trust the technology and roll it out confidently.”

The deployment forms part of Edgbaston’s wider commitment to reducing its environmental impact and improving operational efficiency through innovative technology solutions.

The integration is the result of a partnership between iVvy, the venue and event management software platform used by venues globally, and Lightwave, a specialist in smart lighting, power and heating technology. Together, the two companies have created a first-of-its-kind solution that links event scheduling directly with building energy controls.

Lauren Hall, CEO of iVvy, said: “This is the first integration of its kind to connect venue management and energy-saving technology. By combining iVvy’s powerful event management and automation tools with Lightwave’s leading smart energy controls, we’re helping venues take a major step forward in running events that are both efficient and sustainable.”

Jason Elliott, Chief Executive Officer of Lightwave, added: “Our mission has always been to help businesses and households take control of their energy use. Partnering with iVvy extends this to the events industry, giving venues an easy way to operate smarter and more sustainably.”

Following the successful implementation at Edgbaston Stadium, the integration is expected to provide a blueprint for other stadiums, hotels, hospitality venues and event spaces looking to reduce energy waste, lower operating costs and support their journey towards net-zero targets.
