England take on Sri Lanka today in the second Investec Test Match at Emirates Riverside with Alastair Cook’s men leading the Series 1-0.
It was an emphatic win the other day for England after they dominated the first Test from the off and claimed an innings and 88 run victory over Sri Lanka, with Jonny Bairstow hitting a magnificent 140 and Jimmy Anderson taking 10 wickets in the Test.
Angelo Matthews described his team’s performance as “embarrassing” and will look to his side to bounce back after a very disappointing opening Test Match of the series. They do have an inexperienced side and will need to dig deep and score more runs if they are to have any chance – being bowled out for 91 and 119 is not good enough on the International stage! Sri Lanka were thrashed and will need their players to make an impact on this Test to avoid another heavy defeat.
Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes will replace Ben Stokes in the England side after Stokes was ruled out through injury following the first Test. Alastair Cook is set to become the first Englishman to reach 10,000 Test Match runs with only 11 batsmen in history having achieved this feat.
