Cricket fans are being encouraged to support Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s Sport Director Ashley Giles in a fundraising drive to help address homelessness by taking part in the very first Edgbaston Sleepout.

On the evening of Thursday 27 April, Ashley and several other key figures from the local community will sleep out under the stars at the legendary cricket venue for the biggest fundraising project to date by the Edgbaston Foundation; Warwickshire CCC’s charity. Funds raised will then be donated to St Basils and other charities that support young people at risk of homelessness in Birmingham and across the wider county of Warwickshire.

Ashley Giles, said: “I’ve spent a huge amount of time here at Edgbaston as a player and coach, but I cannot recall sleeping here, at least not outside in the stadium bowl, despite many memorable moments over the years.

“The Edgbaston Sleepout will be a unique opportunity for Bears fans to see and learn a lot more about the club and stadium from behind the scenes, whilst also supporting a great cause.

“Homelessness is a growing concern within the region and the Club and our community team is committed to making a difference and supporting young people through Edgbaston Foundation initiatives such as this.”

Members of the Warwickshire squad and coaching staff recently learned more about the work of St Basils by visiting its Mildenhall House in Solihull, which provides accommodation and support services to young men and women from the Solihull area.

St Basils is one of several local charities, which is helping to address homelessness, supported by the Edgbaston Sleepout. The Edgbaston Foundation is recruiting 70 fundraisers to take part, with all participants being asked to commit to raising a minimum of £700.

All sleepers will be given a full tour of Edgbaston, join Ashley and other participants for a nets practice in the indoor cricket centre, before gathering for a team meal and sleepout in the iconic venue.
