Richard Gleeson is set to spearhead Bears’ Vitality Blast bowling attack for a second season after he and the Club confirmed his return next year.
Gleeson – who’s played six times for England – was one of the Bears’ standout bowlers in the North Group last summer as he took nine wickets in six games.
He was also the competition’s most economical bowler as his 24 overs cost just 4.83 runs apiece.
Vitality Blast fixtures for Bears Men and Women are due to be announced at the end of November and fans can get access to all games for just £90 with our Blast Pass. It’s the best value way to support the Bears in 2025.
The 36-year-old said he’s already looking forward to rejoining his Bears teammates and performing again for fans and Club Members.
He said: “I’m really happy to be heading back to Edgbaston and being a Bear again. The ground holds special memories for me, it’s where I made my England debut, and I enjoyed every minute of my time this summer.
“I was very happy with the way I performed in the group games. I felt I was executing the deliveries I wanted and making it difficult for the batters. I got a few wickets, didn’t go for many runs.
“It was frustrating to pick up the injury as I was flying at the time. I think I’d taken two wickets for two runs against Northants when I had to come off the field.
“We enjoyed some great games during the summer and the atmosphere at Edgbaston under the lights is hard to beat.
“Losing that quarter final really hurt. We know collectively we should have made Finals Day. But it makes us all doubly determined to get there next season.”
Gleeson has signed to play for New York Warriors in the US Masters T10 competition that runs from 5-19 November and is also set to feature in the Abu Dhabi T10 (22 Nov to 2 Dec) and the SA20 in January.
Bears Performance Director Gavin Larsen, said: “We took Glees on a two-year deal in 2024 but there was a performance-related clause linked to the second year. We were delighted with the way he performed and slotted into the side so, for me, it was a no brainer to bring him back for a second season.
“He proved himself as a hugely effective opening and death bowler in T20 cricket, taking wickets with great skill and pace, while keeping runs to a minimum and with an impressive strike rate.
“His experience in T20 franchise cricket is invaluable in the dressing room, he’s been there and done it, and he’s a great guy to have around Edgbaston.
“Glees has agreed some franchise opportunities so will be staying sharp and in shape over the winter and we look forward to seeing him next spring.”
