Adam Hose admits that it "meant a lot" to get his maiden first-class century under his belt, for Warwickshire against Nottinghamshire at Edgbaston last week.
Hose’s accomplished innings of 111 (202 balls, 14 fours, two sixes) was carefully compiled on a slow pitch before he began to climb into some characteristic strokes later on.
His first ton was a while coming, albeit largely because the 26-year-old has played only 24 first class innings to date. He played only sporadic first-team cricket at Somerset and then had to be patient after joining the Bears before becoming a regular in the championship side this season.

But, that all-important first one now in his locker, plenty more first-class tons should await for the talented Hose as he, like the team, have bounced back really well after a tough start to the season.
“I think you could judge by the celebrations that it meant quite a lot to me,” he said. “I am at the age now where it was starting to bug me a bit with that constant question of not when it will come but if it will. So to get it out of the way was an obvious delight.
“The early season was pretty tricky for us. It was a tough start to the season for a few of the guys but, as a professional cricketer, you are going to have your ups and downs and you are always learning. So it was great to show the character that we did with a hard-fought win against Surrey and then a performance against Notts which was really positive and showed what we are about.”
A noticeable factor in the Surrey and Nottinghamshire games was the much-improved fielding display from the Bears. Both their catching and groundfielding was much sharpened following some untidy displays earlier in the season.
“We had been a bit low on confidence so had a big meeting a few weeks back and spoke about areas we wanted to pick up on and fielding was one of those,” Hose said. “I think that has shown in the last couple of games. The guys have put a lot of effort in and really want to make an impact in the field because one great piece of fielding can turn a game.”
