As a 6ft 6in fast bowler, Matt took 318 first class wickets at 27.35 runs apiece with a best of eight for 45.

Matt made his debut for Western Australia on Valentine’s Day 1997.  In 2002 he made his debut for Worcestershire, for whom he went on to play 98 first class, 80 List A and 11 T20 games.

In 2004 Matt played his first first class game at Edgbaston. He took four wickets and was bowled by Ian Bell as the Bears won by nine wickets on the way to lifting the County Championship title.

In 2008 Matt became player/bowling coach at New Road before retiring in June 2011 to take up a full time role as bowling coach. In 2014 he also became assistant head coach.

Matt’s second and final first class appearance at Edgbaston came in an innings-and-18-runs defeat to the Bears in September 2009.

Matt was assistant bowling coach on the ECB Pace Programme in 2017/2018 and has worked with the England Women’s Team at senior and junior level.

Matt was Leicestershire fast bowling coach from January 2018 until October 2019 when he returned to Perth to take up a Bowling Coach role with Western Australia and the Big Bash League’s Perth Scorchers.
