Bears’ Amy Jones has been named the England v Pakistan IT20 Player of the Series after her performances helped England to a 3-0 whitewash win.

Wicket-keeper Jones – who played her 100th IT20 for England at Edgbaston on 11 May to launch the series – scored 78 runs and claimed five catches.

She was named Player of the Match at Edgbaston, hitting 37 crucial runs and steading the England ship after stepping out to bat with her side teetering on 11/4.

The 30-year-old also took four excellent catches in front of a 12,000-strong home crowd, including a diving one-handed effort off the bowling of Lauren Bell.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Jones said: “Starting a new summer at home is always very exciting so I’m happy to have contributed a little over the series.

“I think the work I have done mentally is all about the ball, not the situation, so I’m happy to be able to do that this series.”

Talking about keeping to England’s spinners, she added: “It is great fun. It feels like there’s a chance coming my way every ball so they keep me on my toes. It is great to have such a world-class spin attack.”

Jones and her teammates now prepare for a three-match ODI series against Pakistan, starting at the County Ground in Derby on May 23.

Attention at Edgbaston, meanwhile, switches to the Men’s IT20 when England take on Pakistan – whose squad includes Bears bowler Hassan Ali – on Saturday 25 May (2.30pm start).
