New Zealand fast bowler Michael Rae has returned to Warwickshire having agreed a short-term contract.
The Kiwi quick made an immediate impression during two Vitality Blast County Championship games in May when he took eight wickets, including 3/39 in just six overs at Lancashire.
He’s now claimed 164 wickets in 56 First Class appearances and will be looking to add to that tally in the Bears’ remaining Division One games.
And he could be in line to feature in Warwickshire’s final Metro Bank One Day Cup game against Nottinghamshire at Rugby School tomorrow (14 August, 11am).
“I loved the time I spent with the team earlier this year,” said the 29-year-old, “so I’m really excited to be back in the mix for some more action.
“Obviously we’re yet to get off the mark in terms of the wins column in the Championship, so I’m looking to go out there, bowl good top of off stump stuff with the odd bouncer, and do everything I can to contribute to a few wins and help us climb up the table.”
Rae achieved cult hero status during his nine years with New Zealand First Class side Otago where he took 210 wickets across all formats.
He’s kept himself sharp playing club cricket with East Anglia Premier Division side Capdock & Old Ipswichians CC where he took 4/47 in his last outing on 3 August.
Warwickshire Performance Director Gavin Larsen, added: “With Liam Norwell leaving the Club following his injury setback, and Chris Rushworth working his way back from injury, we felt we needed additional cover and experience in our bowling attack.
“Michael provides that and has a proven ability to hit the pitch hard and cause batters trouble. He adds pace to the squad, and is a great character around the group.
“He impressed in the two red ball games he’s played for us and has kept himself match fit in club cricket in East Anglia. In recent weeks he’s been training with the guys and I’m sure he’ll slot back into the camp effortlessly.”
Warwickshire return to County Championship action against Somerset at Edgbaston starting on Thursday 22 August.
