Twenty-four-year-old Warwickshire batsman Matt Lamb has signed a two-year contract extension to commit to the Bears until at least the end of the 2022 county season.
The Barnt Green Cricket Club batsman and former North Bromsgrove High School pupil graduated from the Warwickshire Academy to win his first professional contract in 2016, subsequently making his First Class debut versus Somerset in September that year.
Paul Farbrace, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Matt has worked very hard at his game and has grown a huge amount in the last 12 months to prove to all that he has a big future here at Edgbaston with the Bears.
“It’s great when players come through our pathway and into the professional ranks, but even more pleasing when they establish themselves in the first team. Many local people in the game will be delighted to see Matt rewarded with this new contract and look forward to seeing him playing a bigger role for the county in the coming years.”

Having made 19 First Class appearances to date, Lamb scored his maiden century versus Essex last season and he has established himself in the middle order for the Bears in red ball cricket. He also made his breakthrough in T20 cricket last season and scored 102 runs in five games at an average of 34.
“I take a huge amount of pride every time that I take to the field wearing the Bear & Ragged Staff,” said Lamb. “Having been part of the Club since an early age, I’m delighted to extend my time here for another couple of years.
“I really appreciate the backing and the confidence that the current coaching team and management have in me. These next two years provide a good opportunity to develop my game further across all formats and to hopefully make major contributions to future success and to win trophies with this Club.”
Lamb was struck on the big toe of his left foot during the first innings of the recent Bob Willis Trophy match with Somerset at Edgbaston and the resulting fracture will see him miss at least the next two weeks of the season, with the hope of returning during the Vitality Blast campaign.
