Matt Mason was full of praise for the Club following his decision to become the new Fast Bowling Coach with England Women.
The Bowling Coach – who arrived at Edgbaston in April having enjoyed success in Australia – admits it was an incredibly difficult decision having been with the Bears for a short time.
“The Club have been awesome, because they were a little bit disappointed and I would expect that,” said Mason. “It’s a short turnaround, but Mark Robinson and Paul Farbrace congratulated me and said what an opportunity it is to contribute to English cricket – which is why we’re all here.
“Robbo has obviously been in this position before and said what a great opportunity, so I have to thank the Club a lot for their support.
“There’s always mixed emotions at times like this. There’s a hint of sadness obviously as I’ve only been here a short period of time and I’m only starting to get to know people. I was already looking towards the winter about what we can do going forward, but then an opportunity to work at the highest level comes along.
“Like any player or coach I have aspirations to test myself and to work an international level is one I couldn’t pass up.”
We’ve already started the recruitment process to identify a high calibre candidate to replace the 48-year-old.
