Warwickshire County Cricket Club Members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a Special Resolution, put forward by its Committee, to change its governance to a new structure that meets the standards and demands of the ever changing environment in which it operates, in addition to being in-keeping with Sport England’s new Code of Governance.
It was announced at the club’s recent AGM at Edgbaston that Members voted with a majority of 92 per cent in favour of the proposed changes, which will see the current General Committee and Management Board disbanded in order to create a new Board of 10 members, which reflects diversity in gender, ethnicity and age.
We will have a ten-strong management board with a number of subcommittees that feed into it, most importantly a new members’ committee, two members of which will sit on the main board. That will enable us to focus a lot more on the issues that our members really care about.
Norman Gascoigne
Norman Gascoigne, Chairman of Warwickshire CCC, said: “Good governance is increasingly important in any modern organisation, but particularly within sporting institutions such as ours. We have been through a very thorough process with valuable consultation and input from our members and it was pleasing to receive such strong support from the members at the AGM.
“Combined with an excellent package of matches in the recent High Profile Match Awards, this really does provide us with a solid foundation on which to build a stable and sustainable future.
“We will have a ten-strong management board with a number of subcommittees that feed into it, most importantly a new members’ committee, two members of which will sit on the main board. That will enable us to focus a lot more on the issues that our members really care about – membership, facilities, communication and, of course, the cricket. I am also keen that this committee considers how we can continue to recognise and celebrate our rich heritage alongside all of the new and exciting developments that are coming into the game.”
The full minutes of the 2018 AGM will be published on warwickshireccc.com in the coming days and details of how members can seek election onto the Members’ Committee will be communicated in due course.
