Warwickshire junior players, both boys and girls, have received great news recently in being called up to higher honours either at the U15 Bunbury Festival (boys) and the School Games (girls) respectively.
This year’s School Games will see the most promising 39 female cricketers aged between 14 and 18 years old competing in a three team round robin competition. Selection for the event took place at the recent Regional Development Centre (RDC) Festival, where girls were selected to represent either team Knight, Sciver or Brunt at Loughborough University in late August.
From the Warwickshire girls at the RDC Festival, Ria Fackrell, Katie Green, Izzy Wong, Grace Ballinger and Milly Home have all made it through to the School Game squads, and we wish them well. We are also extremely proud of our other girls who represented their RDC so well at the recent Festival – Georgia Davis, Beth Ellis (both now too old for School games), Alice Dixon and Amelia Kite.
Since 1986, the most promising U15 (male) players in the country have come together each summer in their four regions to contest the Bunbury Festival. Although many later developers defy this statistic of course, it is claimed that well over 700 first class players have competed at the Festival, with over 70 capped by England.
This summer, in the 14-man Midlands squad, four Warwickshire players have received call-ups following a series of observation days and scouting reports. Congratulations to Roshan Balaji, Alfie Blundell, Tommy Rex and Jacob Bethell on their selection and we wish them well at Millfield School, Somerset next week commencing on Monday 6th August.
