Charis Pavely struck a second hundred in four days as the Bears won by 34 runs against Somerset, with the left-hander now targeting more of the same when they entertain Durham Women on Wednesday 6 May.
Pavely is arguably in the form of her life having registered a first career hundred last Wednesday in a losing effort against The Blaze, smashing an unbeaten 128 off just 102 balls, before following that up four days later with a dazzling 127 off just 103 deliveries as the Bears returned to winning ways at Edgbaston.
The 21-year-old, who had a prolonged spell on the sidelines last year due to injury, was delighted to follow up her maiden hundred with another, and says the hard work done before, during and after injury is paying off.
“It was a proud achievement for me personally to get that hundred at Trent Bridge, but it’s even better when it’s at home in front of an Edgbaston crowd and we get the win,” she said.
“We were getting runs without really going for it. They gave us probably two balls every over that we could punish without taking any risks, so we didn’t have to get too inventive with finding boundaries.
“I’ll be honest, I think I put in the work pre-injury, during rehab and then coming back, but it’s a timing thing with cricket. Sometimes things fall into place and sometimes they don’t. It’s just coming off a bit more this year.
“I’m really pleased with how I’m doing personally and how the team is building into the rest of the competition.”
The Bears welcome Durham to The People’s Home of Cricket in confident mood with two wins from their last three outings, and will be looking to make it back-to-back victories against a side without a win in their last four.
“They have a different line up to most teams,” Pavely added. “They come harder.
“They play funkier shots, and to be honest they back each other probably as much as we back each other.
“It’s whoever holds their nerve the longest on the day. It’ll be a good game.”
Play gets under way at Edgbaston on Wednesday 6 May at 10:30am. The teams will be announced at the toss.
