Birmingham Phoenix have secured the signing of exciting English all-rounder Rehan Ahmed for the 2026 season of The Hundred.
The 21-year-old becomes the first direct signing for the Birmingham Phoenix ahead of the 2026 season and joins following an impressive year for the Trent Rockets, where he took 12 wickets and amassed over 180 runs.
Ahmed has made an impact across all forms of cricket with his leg-spin variations and fearless batting approach, helping Trent Rockets reach the final of The Hundred and Leicestershire to the Rothesay County Championship Division Two title, where he took 23 wickets at 19 and averaged 50.67 with the bat, including five centuries.
He joins the Birmingham Phoenix with experience beyond his years in franchise cricket, having appeared for the Gulf Giants in the ILT20 and the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and is the first signing by Performance Director James Thomas and new men’s Head Coach Shane Bond ahead of the highly-anticipated 2026 season.
Ahmed said: “The vision and strategy set out by James and Bondy was something that I really wanted to be a part of, so I’m happy to have signed for the Birmingham Phoenix.
“It’s an ambitious franchise with big plans, and Edgbaston is obviously an amazing place to play cricket, so I’m really looking forward to getting started next year and hopefully being part of a squad which will challenge for silverware in The Hundred.”
Thomas, Performance Director of the Birmingham Phoenix, said: “Rehan was one of the players we identified very early on as somebody who aligns perfectly with our strategy, so we’re thrilled to have secured his signing.
“He is one of the most highly-rated players in the country and has the ability to make a huge impact with both bat and ball. Although he is still in the early stages of his career, there is no doubt about his ability, and we are confident he will be a key player for the Birmingham Phoenix next season.”
