William Porterfield has been appointed as Ian Bell’s Vice-Captain for Birmingham Bears.
Porterfield (31) joined the Bears ahead of the 2011 season and has played an instrumental role in our recent success in T20 cricket, including our famous NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day victory at Edgbaston in 2014 where his Man of the Match 81* helped secure a semi-final victory over Surrey.
He was appointed captain of Ireland in 2008 and has gone on to lead the team in five ICC World T20s, whilst winning 48 International T20 caps.
Dougie Brown, Director of Cricket, said: “William is a vastly experienced cricketer who has played at the highest level of the game for several years.
“He is a great role model for our younger members of the squad and we are delighted to confirm his appointment as our Vice Captain, who will be available to support Ian Bell on and off the field as required we mount a challenge for silverware in the latter half of the season.”
