Bears Women’s team launch their new season on Monday with a Vitality Women’s County T20 double header against Wales at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.

Dominic Ostler’s side will be looking for a strong display in the games, starting at 11am and 3pm, ahead of their other two double-headers in the group, against Somerset at Taunton on April 24 and Gloucestershire at Thornbury on May 2.

The Bears played some impressive cricket last season, winning all their games which elude the rain, only to be denied the trophy because Somerset also had a 100% record and squeezed one more game in among the bad weather.

Ostler, head coach of the Bears Women and also assistant coach of Central Sparks, will be looking for more of the same this year from his talented Bears squad.

“The girls have wintered very well and we are all looking forward to getting started against Wales on Monday,” he said. “Preparations have been great and now it’s just a question of taking that outside and having a bit of fun and enjoying the cricket.

“The standard of women’s cricket is improving all the time so we will be up against some strong competition in Wales, Somerset and Gloucestershire, but we have some very good players and will go onto the games with confidence.

“Marie Kelly is captain again this year, which is great, and we have Beth Ellis back from Derbyshire and Issy Wong will play on Monday so we have a really good 12.

“The girls were really unlucky last year in that we had two games rained off and Somerset just one, but we won the trophy in 2019 and are unbeaten in the two years since then so we are looking to carry that form on.”
