Preview: Bears Women vs Hampshire Hawks, Vitality Blast

The Bears have had an excellent start to the Vitality Blast campaign, sitting third in the table after six games.

They mirrored their start to the Metro Bank One Day Cup by tying their first game against The Blaze.

Since then, the Bears have been on a rollercoaster with some record-breaking batting displays, tight losses, frustrating rain delays and comprehensive victories.

They’ve won three of their six to date and find themselves in prime position to secure a spot in Finals Day, and could even look to top the table.

They welcome Hampshire Hawks to Edgbaston on Sunday, who sit in fourth, one place behind the Bears.

The Hawks do have a game in hand over the Bears, so this is a key opportunity to drive home their superior points tally and leave space between the sides.

There’s a three-point gap between the two sides, so with a victory, the Bears could open up at least a seven-point gap from the chasing pack.

Also, with 5th placed Lancashire Thunder not playing on Sunday and Essex facing Surrey, who have looked one of the better sides in the competition, victory for the Bears would put them in a considerable position of strength.

The two teams ahead are Surrey and The Blaze, both of which are star-studded sides, but have also shown they are fallible.

Surrey lost to table-topping Blaze, whilst the latter through away a seemingly easy victory against the Bears in the opening round to ruin their otherwise unblemished record.

With every game that goes by, the Bears grow more in confidence and understanding, and appear to be hitting their straps with both bat and ball.

The Bears have three fixtures before the break from June 21 to July 4, with their last game being against The Blaze at Edgbaston.

Two victories, including the toppling of high-flying Blaze, could put them in the ascendancy.
