Report: Lancashire v Warwickshire, Second XI Championship
Dan Mousley and Ethan Brookes were among the runs as Warwickshire 2nd XI beat Lancashire by 177 runs in a run-soaked four-day match at Chester Boughton Hall.
Back to fitness after a broken finger, Mousley made 198 (209 balls, 25 fours, three sixes) in the second innings while Brookes scored 174 (189 balls, 19 fours, eight sixes). They shared in a stand of 325 in 56 overs, a Bears 2nd XI second-wicket partnership against Lancashire, surpassing the 138 by John Whitehouse and Alvin Kallicharran at Edgbaston in 1971.
Both sides had already scored heavily in the first innings. After the Bears chose to bat, they made 380 (Brookes 92, David Scott 71, Kobe Herft 59, Michael Booth 53). Lancashire replied with 441, Subhaan Mahmood striking an unbeaten 191 while George Garrett took three wickets, supported by two apiece for Brookes, Mousley and Che Simmons.
Brilliant batting from Mousley and Brookes then lifted the Bears to 454 for five second time round, leaving the Red Rose a victory target of 394. They made just 216 as Mousley took four for 42, Simmons three for 42 and Manraj Johal two for 40.
