Match abandoned as a draw

Warwickshire 8 points Nottinghamshire 6 points

Day 1

Rain and bad light restricted the opening day of Warwickshire’s Second XI latest Championship game to just 138 minutes play after Nottinghamshire won the toss and chose to field at Ladybay.

After a cautious start, Yarns and Banks were separated in the ninth over with 13 on the board, when Liam Banks edged Kitt to wicket-keeper Moores for eight.

Sam Hain, fresh from a spectacular “white ball“ series of Royal London One-Day Cup ‘List A’ matches, where he had scored over 400 runs in eight matches, followed for 13 before an unbeaten third wicket stand of 76 between Yates 43* and Matthew Lamb 43*.

Warwickshire closed the day on 115 for two from the 33 overs bowled in the rain curtailed day.

Day 2

Rain was the winner again on the second day, although it did rescind to allow 55 overs of play, on a day that saw Robert Yates complete his century whilst adding 182 runs for the third wicket with Matthew Lamb.

Yates century included 16 boundaries, whilst he received 240 deliveries before falling lbw to Carter immediately after completing his century for 102.

Lamb followed seven overs later for 95, bowled by Brown leaving the fifth wicket pair of Mellor 13* and Thomason 20* together when rain brought an early conclusion to the second day, with Warwickshire 269 for four.

Day 3

With rain set in for the day and after heavy overnight rain, play was abandoned without a ball bowled on the final morning.

Warwickshire took eight points and Nottinghamshire six points.
