Poysden picked up the first of his two wickets to remove Greg Smith 24 and Will Root 2 quickly followed, lbw to Javid.

Poysden and Brookes dismissed Lezar and Brett Hutton respectively, but Dal was unbeaten at the end of the innings on 56 as Nottinghamshire closed on 132-5 from their 20 overs.

Ed Pollock was in tremendous form when the Bears replied, scoring 93 from just 54 balls with 14 fours and two sixes.

Despite losing Mellor 15, Banks 1 and Lamb 14, Pollock’s innings secured an opening match victory for the Bears with 19 balls to spare.

Match 2

Toss won by Birmingham Bears 2nd XI who decided to bat

Birmingham Bears 2nd XI 119-7 (20.0 overs)

Nottinghamshire 2nd XI 120-5 (20.0 overs)

Nottinghamshire 2nd XI (2 points) won by 5 wickets

Looking to repeat their earlier success, Alex Mellor 35 gave the Bears a solid start to the second match of the day, after losing first match hero, Ed Pollock, for just a single off the final delivery of Kitt’s opening over.

Banks 4 and Lamb 15 followed before Alex Thomson 39* held the innings together once Mellor had fallen lbw to Carter.

Javid 11, Chapman-Lilley 6 and Pharuga 0 all failed to break the shackles of some tight Nottinghamshire bowling, with both Carter and Wood claiming two wickets as Birmingham closed on 119-7 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Notts found run-scoring just as difficult against the tight off-spin of Ateeq Javid 0-15, from his four overs, Spencer 1-12 from two, Josh Poysden 1-14 from four and Thomson 2-20 from three.

With wickets falling at regular intervals, Notts still required 26 from the final 15 deliveries.

However, experienced opener Greg Smith partnered by Marshall, 17 from eight deliveries, saw the home side to victory off the final ball of the match.
