Report: Warwickshire v Gloucestershire, Second XI Championship
Warwickshire pulled off a fantastic six-wicket Second XI Championship victory over Gloucestershire after chasing down 367 on the final day at Portland Road.
Ethan Brookes (112, 119 balls, 19 fours, one six) and Amir Khan (96, 160 balls, 13 fours) set up the brilliant pursuit with a second-wicket stand of 187 in 35 overs. Adam Hose’s brutal 93 (69 balls, ten fours, five sixes) then took on the chase which was completed by Jake Bethell’s skilful unbeaten 38 (37 balls) and Chris Benjamin ‘s astute unbeaten one (two balls).
It was the second time that Bethell and Benjamin had left their stamp on the match. having both hit first-innings centuries.
After Gloucestershire, batting first, made 255 with Manraj Johal, George Garrett and Brookes taking two wickets apiece, the Bears replied with 338 based around a superb partnership by Bethell and Benjamin.
Coming together at 82 for four, the pair added of 199 in 47 overs, Bethell scoring 100 (175 balls, 15 fours) and Benjamin 124 (185 balls, 15 four).
Trailing by 93, the visitors made 459 second time round (Jake Lintott three for 87) leaving the Bears a target of 367 which they knocked off with aplomb in just 72.4 overs.
