Report: Warwickshire v Sussex, Second XI
An impressive performance with both bat and ball gave Warwickshire an emphatic final day victory against Sussex at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.
Needing a further 452 runs after closing on 32/2, the visitors were despatched in just 26.1 overs with Isaac Mohammed (4/27) and Che Simmons (3/37) ripping through the order.
It became a routine finale, but the heavy lifting was done with the bat. Chris Benjamin’s 227 (240 balls, 23 fours) was the standout, a beautiful innings which aptly fell on his birthday, while Sam Hain showed his class with 101 (158 balls, 11 fours) as the Bears were bowled out for 523.
In reply, Jake Lintott (3/53), Mohammed (3/26) and Simmons (2/78) united to dismiss Sussex for 404, a 119 deficit, that set up the hosts.
Hain added his second ton (127 runs, 156 balls, 11 four, 4 sixes), whilst Amir Khan looked composed in a brilliant 122 (166 balls, 18 fours, two sixes).
The Bears would declare on 364/5, leaving a mammoth target of 483 that Sussex could never get close.
