Report: Warwickshire v Worcestershire, Pre-Season Friendly
A remarkable effort from the groundstaff ensured Warwickshire were able to build on their pre-season tour to Cape Town with some more time in the middle.
A huge credit must go to Gary Barwell and his troops who have worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure 90 overs were possible at Edgbaston, whilst 100 were played at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground from one end on day one of the three-day friendly.
Batting first at Edgbaston, Alex Davies led the Bears with 64 (11×4, 1×6) to help reach 207 from their 45 overs. In reply, the Worcestershire closed on 173/5, as Olly Hannon-Dalby, our leading wicket-taker in First Class cricket last season, finished with 3/39 from eleven overs.
With the forecast looking bleak it was no surprise that the next two days were called.
Nevertheless, with matches disrupted up and down the country the opportunity to experience outdoor cricket could be vital come Thursday at Somerset.
