Day 1

Warwickshire’s Second XI travelled to Harrogate to play against a strong Yorkshire side that included several players returning from injury and others with recent first-team experience.

Batting after winning the toss, Warwickshire saw Jack Brooks bowl Umeed for five in the fourth over as the home side opened their attack with the renowned first team pairing of Brooks and Ryan Sidebottom, with Steve Patterson as first change.

A partnership of 151 for the second wicket followed between Westwood 142 and Banks 49, but once they were separated, wickets fell at regular intervals with Warwickshire being bowled out for 294 from 87 overs.

Harrison 25 and Yates 23 got starts, but were unable to convert into significant scores as Brooks closed with 4-52 and two wickets apiece for Shaw and Carver, while wicket-keeper Hodd completed six catches.

Before the close, Yorkshire had reached 55-2 from 15 overs.

Day 2

Alex Lees 125 dominated the second day, completing his century, while he and Will Rhodes added 169 for the third wicket until Harrison dismissed them both.

Hodd 43, Wingman 35 and Brooks 38 added useful lower-order runs as Yorkshire closed on 388 from 84.4 overs.
Singh 4-93, Brookes 3-69 and Harrison 3-73 shared the wickets.

There was time for 35 overs before the close, but Warwickshire quickly lost Umeed for one and Westwood for three. Mellor, three, and Harrison, three, soon followed with the Bears 21 for four in the 13th over.

However, a rapid 72 from Liam Banks was brought to a close in the last over of the day as Warwickshire ended the second day on 118 for five with a slender lead of 18 runs.

Day 3

Yates 45 and Panayi 29 held up the Yorkshire attack on the final morning, adding 53 in 15 overs before both batsmen fell within 16 runs of one another. Despite Phagura’s 29, Warwickshire’s second innings closed on 232 from 71 overs leaving Yorkshire a target of 139 for victory.

First innings centurion Lees was dismissed by Panayi for just a single, but Tattersall 34* with good support from Brook 36 and Rhodes 21 paved the way for a match-winning, unbeaten 45 from Patterson off 39 deliveriees to see Yorkshire home by seven wickets.
