Report: Yorkshire v Warwickshire, One Day Cup
Yorkshire Women 238 all out (49.2 overs) lost to Warwickshire Women 239-7 (47.2 overs)
Warwickshire claimed their fourth win of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup season with a three-wicket victory over Yorkshire at Scarborough.
Chloe Brewer’s composed 56 helped steer the Bears home after Yorkshire were bowled out for 238 with four balls remaining.
Yorkshire recovered from an early setback after Lauren Winfield-Hill was bowled by Mary Taylor for six in the third over. Jess Jonassen and Georgie Boyce added 89 for the second wicket before Boyce was caught by Brewer off Hannah Baker for 37.
Baker continued to apply pressure with the ball, removing Sterre Kalis for three before Ami Campbell was caught by Georgia Davis for one as Yorkshire slipped to 108 for four.
However, Jonassen and Ines Blackwell rebuilt with a stand of 79 for the fifth wicket, Blackwell making 33 before becoming Baker’s third wicket after being stumped. Maddie Ward followed soon after, bowled by Phoebe Brett for one.
Jonassen reached her century from 95 balls but was dismissed for 110 by Davis as Yorkshire looked to accelerate late in the innings. Beth Langston added 18 and Rachel Slater 14 before Taylor and Davis each claimed a third wicket, while Brett wrapped up the innings with the wicket of Jess Woolston to leave Yorkshire all out for 238.
Warwickshire’s chase began with an early setback as Georgia Redmayne was run out from the opening ball, but Amu Surenkumar and Meg Austin responded with a partnership of 72.
Austin was trapped lbw by Claudie Cooper for 30 before Surenkumar was stumped for 45, and when Pavely fell for three, the Bears were reduced to 85 for four.
However, Brewer and Abigail Freeborn steadied the innings with a crucial 93-run partnership that shifted momentum back towards Warwickshire.
Brewer reached her half-century before being stumped for 56, while Freeborn added 36 before Jonassen claimed her third wicket of the match.
With the hard work done, Warwickshire closed out victory with 16 balls to spare.
Amu Surenkumar said:
“We’re very pleased we won especially after winning the last game too and it puts us in a good position heading into the T20s.
“We did make it trickier than it needed to be but it showed the batting depth in our squad and we’re very pleased to win.
“We know that we bat deep and it was great to show that today but we made it tricky – we had a spread field and didn’t really utilise that but good teams find a way and we found a way today.
“We felt Yorkshire’s score was under par because it was a very good wicket and a quick outfield and felt they should have scored another 40 or 50 runs but that’s kudos to our bowlers who bowled very well and fielding was excellent.”
