Mark Robinson admitted hewas lost for words after his Warwickshire side clinched the LV= County Championship title at Edgbaston on the final day of the season.
The Men’s First Team Coach joined the club in February, overseeing a remarkable transformation which saw the Bears lift the trophy for the first time since 2012.
“I’m starting to be able to because I was quite emotional at the end,” Robinson said when asked to put the achievement into words. “I was trying to call my wife and I couldn’t really speak.
|It’s special because of the way it was done. There’s been a lot of thought and heartbreak going into this game because it was a hell of a wicket.
“We fought hard to get what we thought was a vital batting bonus point and then we’re flogging ourselves to try and get the final bowling bonus point, but you don’t get it and draw becomes the favourite.
“You’ve then got to do something with the bat and Dom Sibley and Rob Yates were special. Then the Captain comes in and of all of his contributions this season he probably does his most important to give us that real good injection. It buys us some time and more overs to bowl them out.
“This morning goes to plan, better than planned really with Matt Lamb and Yatesy doing what they do.
“Then you’ve got a chance as it’s 80 overs and you always have a chance with a new ball. Especially with the bowlers of the class of Chris Woakes, Liam Norwell and Craig Miles etc.
“But to do it after tea on the last day of the last game of the season in front of your own supporters – which was an incredible atmosphere – is special.”
