First Team Coach Mark Robinson was naturally full of praise for his side following their innings and 84 run victory at the Ageas Bowl.
Led by Chris Rushworth, 10/78 in the match and 7/39 in the final session, the Bears return to the top of the table ahead of Thursday’s game against Essex.
“It’s the perfect win, isn’t it?” Robinson said. “We were frustrated by the weather yesterday in such a dominant position and as we’ve been before, not only this season but in the past, you’ve got to play fast cricket to try and set up even an opportunity of a win. Credit to the boys and Will as Captain to be punchy with the declaration.
“We knew the sun was going to come out at lunchtime and with the overheads heavy this morning the best thing was to try and get a few and pull out earlier than we planned to do. We were planning to pull out a bit later, but that the conditions were such and we just felt we’ve got the bowlers to try and exploit that.
“There’s always a chane to get a few wickets early doors and get some jitters. We’ve seen ourselves that when you’re under pressure and only got two results possible things can get stressful. You do need a few things to go your way, especially with the new ball, and the execution was immaculate.”
