Warwickshire’s Lead County Championship Partner Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care has thrown its support behind an initiative to encourage more girls to play cricket in the Midlands.
It has awarded £1,000 to Knowle & Dorridge Cricket Club for its flagship Junior Girls Cricket Programme, launched this season for girls aged five to 13.
The long established Midlands club, which dates from 1896, is entering a girls’ cricket team for the first time in the Warwickshire Cricket Board’s Under 11s League.
Scrivens partnered with Warwickshire CCC and the Warwickshire Cricket Board to invite recreational cricket clubs across the region to make their case for a £1,000 sponsorship deal and was bowled over by the Knowle & Dorridge scheme.
Adrian Ellis, Operations Director at Scrivens, said: “We wanted to give something back to community cricket to mark our fifth year sponsorship of Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
“As a family business operating in local communities, we appreciate the value that sports clubs bring to people of all ages. We were impressed by Knowle & Dorridge Cricket Club’s approach and are delighted to become its principal female sponsor for the 2017 season.”
Ben Seifas, Commercial Partnerships Manager at Warwickshire CCC, said: “This has been a fantastic initiative from Scrivens to support the grassroots of cricket and attracted a huge amount of interest in recreational clubs affiliated to Warwickshire Cricket Board and through our Club Together T20 programme.
“We’re thrilled to see so many applications and to see this generous £1,000 sponsorship go to Knowle & Dorridge CC Junior Girls, which is one of the leading girls cricket programmes in the region.”
Adam Harrison, Sponsorship Chairman of Knowle & Dorridge Cricket Club, said: “We’re very grateful to Scrivens for backing our exciting girls’ programme which is aimed at encouraging greater female participation in cricket. We are committed as a club to supporting younger people and women’s cricket is an area we want to grow. This exciting partnership with Scrivens can help achieve our ambitions to have ladies teams at all age groups.”
