Second XI Trophy Report: Warwickshire v Leicestershire
Ed Pollock and Dom Sibley put Leicestershire’s bowlers to the sword as Warwickshire galloped to a nine-wicket win in the Second XI Trophy at Barnt Green today.
Chasing the Foxes’ total of 188, the Bears raced to 189 for one in just 18.5 overs with Pollock smashing an unbeaten 90 (51 balls, 13 fours, four sixes) and Sibley scoring 88 (61 balls, 14 fours, two sixes).
Their stand of 187 in 18 overs took the Bears to the threshold of victory with more than half the allotted overs unused before Sam Hain saw his side over the line with an astute unbeaten one (four balls, no fours, no sixes).
Leicestershire’s batsmen had found the going much more difficult as Oliver Hannon-Dalby continued his impressive early-season form by taking three for 26. Keith Barker added three for 37 as the two seamers pegged the Foxes back by taking the first three wickets and then returned to collect the last three.
Josh Poysden added two wickets, including former Bears team-mate Ateeq Javid for 18, as only Ned Eckersley (55 from 73 balls with four fours) passed 30 for the visitors.
Warwickshire’s next Second XI Trophy game is against Yorkshire on the main ground at Edgbaston next Monday (May 21) before they face the White Rose over the following three days in a Second XI Championship match at Portland Road.
