Hamza Shaikh blasted an unbeaten century as Warwickshire Second XI secured a dominant 60-run victory over Worcestershire at Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.
Shaikh’s brilliant innings of 122* came from just 53 balls which helped the Bears to a second win from three games in the Second XI T20 Central Group.
Warwickshire are now four points clear at the top of the table with two wins and a no result from their three games.
Batting first, Warwickshire lost Arjun Nahal with the score on 12, before Shaikh and Kai Smith came together in a 12-over 128-run partnership. Smith scored 68 from 46 balls, while Shaikh’s blistering knock included 12 fours and eight sixes.
Chris Woakes, in the Warwickshire side on his return from injury, provided a late flourish with 33 from 12 balls with four sixes, as the Bears reached 231 for three.
Woakes then struck in the first over with the ball, and despite 71 off 42 balls by JP Lees, the Bears took wickets at regular intervals.
Woakes led the charge with three for 27, with Eesa Nadeem matching Woakes’ wicket haul, taking three for 33 from his four overs.
There were two wickets apiece for Taz Ali (two for 44) and Michael Booth (two for 21) as Worcestershire were bowled out for 171.
