Sibley and Thomson star in Second XI Championship win
A colossal innings from Dominic Sibley and incisive bowling from pacemen and spinners alike earned Warwickshire an innings-and-217-runs win over Derbyshire in the Second XI Championship at Hem Heath.
The Bears took command on the opening day when Derbyshire were dismissed for 122. Olly Stone and Keith Barker staked their claim for a first-team return as each conceded just 18 runs from ten overs, Stone taking four wickets and Barker one. Olly Hannon-Dalby chipped in with three for 40.
Sibley then eclipsed the home side’s first innings total on his own as he piled up an unbeaten 278 (308 balls, 39 fours, eight sixes) out of the Bears’ 529 for eight declared. He shared a seventh-wicket partnership of 201 with Barker (90, 96 balls, 11 fours, four sixes).
When Derbyshire went in again, trailing by 307, Hannon-Dalby added another two wickets to his haul before off-spinner Alex Thomson tore through the middle and lower orders. Thomson finished with 10.2-6-18-6 as Derbyshire were bowled out for 190 and victory was sealed just before 8pm on the second day.
