Dominic Sibley admits that receiving his county cap was an "unbelievable" way to end his season with Warwickshire.

Opening batsman Sibley truly has had a season to remember, scoring 1,324 Specsavers County Championships runs at an average of 69.68.

It was pretty unbelievable, especially to be capped alongside Olly, one of the best blokes I’ve ever known in cricket.

His batting excellence formed the foundation for Warwickshire’s First Division survival and also earned him elevation into the senior England squad for the Test tour to New Zealand.

After spending some time at an England camp in Loughborough later this month, Sibley will fly out to New Zealand on November 2 with hopefully his Test debut awaiting him in the inaugural Test match at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on November 21.

He will do so as a capped Warwickshire player after he, along with seamer Olly Hannon-Dalby, received the accolade after the final match of the season at Edgbaston.

“It was pretty unbelievable, especially to be capped alongside Olly, one of the best blokes I’ve ever known in cricket,” Sibley said, “That made it extra special.

“I didn’t see it coming at all. After the Yorkshire game was called off we had a post-season debrief in the dressing-room and Jeetan Patel and Jim Troughton said some nice things. Then Jeets made the presentation – it was pretty emotional.

“It is a huge honour to join all the Warwickshire players to be capped down the years. It is an amazing list, even just recently when you look at Tim Ambrose, Ian Bell, Jonathan Trott, Jeets and, last year, Sam Hain. They are all top-class players who have some amazing achievements in cricket and I couldn’t be more proud to join them as a capped Bear.”
