Tomorrow at Trent Bridge England play the first of five ODIs against Sri Lanka led by ODI captain Eoin Morgan. After almost leading England an ICC Trophy World T20 trophy in India, is now back in the thick of international cricket and will be hoping to seal a series win vs. a strong limed overs Sri Lankan team.

Sri Lanka are undoubtly a stronger team with a white ball. Dasun Shanaka, dropped from the Test team after taking two wickets in his second over, is likely to stay in the team longer this time. Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal are very dangerous opponents. But, unusually in this form of the game, England are the strong favourites.

England have strength in depth and with Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler Eoin Morgan has three individuals who are capable of winning matches on their own. The Three Lions have not been the most consistent of sides in ODIs winning 10 and losing nine games since the start of last summer. However, they can point to series victories over New Zealand and Pakistan as the high points of their limited overs campaign.

There are still doubts over all-rounder Stokes’ fitness, which means Chris Woakes might get a game after putting in impressive performances in the Test series. Johnny Bairstow may slot in as a batsman with Jos Buttler taking over wicket-keeping duties.

After a one sided Investec Test series, we look forward to this change in pace and dynamic vs. Sri Lanka and we fully expect Angelo Matthews and his men to come out fighting against a formidable England side.
