Thousands of children across Birmingham will wake up to a Christmas gift this year thanks to the generosity of Bears fans and people across the city.
We’ve again played our part in the BrumWish appeal which aims to provide toys and other Christmas presents to children’s charities and refuges during the festive period.
Together with campaign partners Edgbaston Foundation – the Club’s charitable arm – Birmingham Live, Thrive Birmingham and Birmingham Playcare Network we’ve collected an amazing 12,000 gifts.
Edgbaston Foundation also contributed £1,500 which was used to buy children’s trainers. All the donations were stored, sorted and distributed from Edgbaston Stadium to great causes across the region.
Edgbaston Community Director Fidelis Navas, said: “It’s such an important campaign and can be the difference between a child waking up on Christmas Day to a present or nothing at all.
“That’s why we’re so proud to play our part in what is a great community initiative.
“It’s been a fantastic team effort by lots of partners, plus members of the public across the city who despite the challenges many are facing still dug deep to find money to treat a child this Christmas. Thank you.”
Club supporters Cadent, the region’s gas network, also played an important role in lending their vans and drivers to help deliver gifts to refuges, care homes and children’s centres.
Michael Ball, Network Supervisor at Cadent said: “Cadent take pride in supporting the communities we live and work in, so we were more than happy to help.
“It was a joy to be able to deliver the gifts to the charities benefitting from them and to spread some Christmas cheer, we are proud to have been a part of the appeal.”
