England bowler Issy Wong says she’s excited about the future after signing a two-year deal to play for Bears Women.
Wong – a Women’s Premier League (WPL) winner in India with Mumbai Indians – is the latest addition to an exciting Bears Women pace bowling attack which includes fellow England seamer Katie George and Em Arlott.
Bears Women will play in Tier 1 of a new, professional women’s league from 2025.
We caught up with Issy at Knowle & Dorridge CC, her first club, and where her cricket journey started. “When I was growing up, playing for the Bears was always the goal,” said the 22-year-old.
“I’ve done that with Warwickshire Women but to now be doing that as a professional with Bears Women is next level and I can’t wait. “It’s a pretty exciting time. There’s going to be a whole new generation of girls coming through that will have the same end goal of doing this as a career. I think that’s fantastic.”
