Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s charity, the Edgbaston Foundation, has partnered with Birmingham City Council in a scheme designed to encourage more people to cycle to work and to reduce the level of transport by car.

As recipients of a grant from Birmingham City Council’s Cycle Revolution, Warwickshire CCC’s Edgbaston Stadium, which is the biggest cricket venue outside of London, has been named as a Top Cycle Location after unveiling dedicated storage and changing facilities for cyclists.

We’re thrilled to have three new bikes to support staff in their journeys to and from work, in addition to the new changing and storage facilities, which will be utilised by the thousands of visitors who come to Edgbaston.

Edgbaston now boasts a mix of storage racks, rings and shelter for up to 30 bicycles to be stored within the grounds of the stadium, whilst it is also purchasing three bicycles for staff to use. The investment will also provide new dedicated changing facilities and lockers for cyclists in the Edgbaston Indoor Centre.

Ravi Masih, Head of Community Engagement at Warwickshire CCC, said: “As a business and major employer in the city we’re committed to encouraging active, healthy lifestyles and to reducing the carbon footprint of the stadium and our employees.

“We’re thrilled to have three new bikes to support staff in their journeys to and from work, in addition to the new changing and storage facilities, which will be utilised by the thousands of visitors who come to Edgbaston, whether it be for cricket, a conference or another event.

“Our thanks go to Birmingham City Council for their support with this scheme.”

By providing valuable facilities for visitors and staff alike, the Stadium is now offering an excellent incentive for more people to swap four wheels for two.

Cllr Stewart Stacey

Councillor Stewart Stacey, Cabinet Member for Transport and Roads at Birmingham City Council, said: “The aim of Birmingham Cycle Revolution is to encourage more people to choose cycling as an everyday way to travel, so I am delighted that we have been able to support Edgbaston Stadium in putting this scheme in place.

“By providing valuable facilities for visitors and staff alike, the Stadium is now offering an excellent incentive for more people to swap four wheels for two, helping to reduce congestion on our roads and benefiting both the environment and their own health.”
